Educating those who are most at risk and relieving poverty are our primary objectives in Afghanistan. Having the support of our donors has enabled us to do so much, and our transparency approach ensures that all donations reach those in need.

"At Zhwand, our mission is to alleviate the devastating effects of the ongoing food crisis and poverty in Afghanistan, particularly in light of the current crises the country is facing. As stated by the United Nations and the World Health Organization, Afghanistan is immersed in one of the world's largest humanitarian crises. After the Taliban takeover in August 2021, international funding and support have depleted, leaving over half of the population unemployed and hunger spreading rapidly.
At Zhwand, we recognize the broader challenges faced by Afghanistan, including illiteracy, unemployment, lack of basic amenities, and limited access to healthcare and education. We aim to address these issues through our focus on providing access to healthcare, education, and poverty alleviation initiatives, with a particular emphasis on rural areas where approximately 80% of the population resides.
Transparency is of utmost importance to us.
We will provide regular updates, including pictures and videos, to show how
your donations are being utilized. If you choose to support a family on a
monthly basis, we will facilitate communication between you and the family you
are assisting.

Zhwand Charity Foundation is rooted in Kunar Province, where our free educational center welcomes every child — boys and girls, orphans and working kids — year-round. Beyond Kunar, our food and winter aid reach into Nangarhar (Jalalabad), Laghman, Nuristan, and Kabul whenever families run out of options.
Since 2021, Afghanistan has faced a collapsing economy, vanishing jobs, and a child hunger crisis the UN now classifies as emergency-level. We focus our resources where the pain is sharpest: widows raising children alone, orphans with no safety net, and families one missed meal from hunger.
Every month we deliver flour, oil, and warm clothes to those who have run out of options. Every school day our teachers show up so that kids in Kunar can keep learning — for free, and without ever being asked to pay. With winter closing mountain roads within weeks, your sponsorship — in any amount — becomes a pantry stocked, a notebook bought, a family held together.

Meet Our Team
Founder & Executive Director
Abdullah “Zvac” Salarzai founded Zhwand Charity Foundation in August 2021 to channel his engineering background and diaspora network into lasting support for families in rural Afghanistan. Based in San Jose, California, he works as a Cloud Support Engineer at Amazon Web Services by day and leads Zhwand’s mission by night — delivering food aid, sponsoring families, and running a free educational center in Kunar Province so that every donation creates real, measurable impact on the ground.
